Workshop // Ballroom Body w. Gifty Lartey
She is active in the German dance scene and known for her work that explicitly addresses afrodiasporic perspectives. Community building is a central concern for her, which is why she is active in multiple dance scenes and often serves as a bridge between them.
She not only teaches but also gives Dance Lectures on Black dance culture. This highlights her commitment to sharing knowledge and conveying the historical and cultural backgrounds of dance. The project “Educate to Recreate,” which she curates, focuses on teaching and reinventing dance and culture, often incorporating historical and diasporic contexts. Her significance in the Ballroom scene is also evident in her role as the German God Mother of the Kiki House of Angels and, since June 2025, a proud member of the Iconic House of Revlon. Both houses are deeply rooted in Black Ballroom culture and provide a safer space and form of expression for QBPOC. These engagements underscore her role in strengthening and connecting communities.
Gifty has developed and performed choreographies for artists like Ace Tee and Dornikathepoet as well as for brands like Nike and Adidas, often incorporating cultural references and narratives.
Her solo debut, “Lemme Talk” (May 2024), is a prime example of her engagement with these themes. The piece explores her own afrodiasporic identity and her deep connection to Black dance culture, weaving together personal experiences and collective narratives.
Workshop Discribtion:
The Ballroom 101 Labs are a space to introduce this category and finesse presentations and confidence.
This includes a rundown on getting your 10s, battle tactics, and self-empowerment within these categories.
Disclaimer: Body is expressed through artistic beauty, which is strongly connected to physical presentation and the (self)expression of the body, confidence, and sensuality. This category is very intimate in expression. As we aim for a "safer space" for BIPoc, Queer and especially Trans Identities - we ask you to be mindful of the space and your actions during this empowerment workshop.
