On/Crying – The Gravity of Tears

On/Crying – The Gravity of Tears is an ode to tears and the act of crying. Both a performance and an installation, the work invites the audience to spend time in a landscape of tears. We are biologically programmed to cry and respond to crying. Although crying is our most basic form of communication, most of us unlearn how to cry in the presence of others, which makes crying one of our most private acts.

The work imagines: What if crying was more social and essential in creating interpersonal connections? In times when it has become normal to skim the surface of emotions, On/Crying invites through tears to dive into the broad spectrum of human emotions and to linger in their depths.

En glitrende ode til gråden, en dryppende undersøgelse af tårernes tyngdekraft. Værket er både forestilling og installation og inviterer til at tilbringe tid i grådens landskab i et kollektivt græderum – med alt der ligger før, indeni og efter gråden.

On/Crying insisterer på gråd som en kraftfuld, transformativ tilstand – en bevægelse, der rækker ud over det private og bliver et kollektivt, kropsligt fænomen. I et rum, hvor tårer får lov at flyde, spørger forestillingen: Hvad sker der, når vi omfavner gråden som et sprog, en udveksling, en åbning? Gennem en grædekones blik navigerer vi mellem det intime og det ceremonielle, det rituelle og det rå – dér, hvor følelser bliver til bevægelse, og sårbarhed bliver til forbindelse.
